What to Expect

Go on a walk to learn about Christchurch’s history.
You will visit old streets and buildings, and hear the stories behind them.
You will also spend time at the city library to look up more information.
You can draw, write, or take photos to show what you find out.

What to Bring

  • Walking shoes and dress for the weather.

  • Optional: notebook, sketchbook, or camera.

What You’ll Learn

  • Local History: Learn stories about the people and buildings of Christchurch.

  • Architectural Styles: Learn about different parts of heritage buildings and why they are important.

  • Cultural Context: Learn how Māori and early settlers have helped shape Christchurch

  • Research Skills: Learn how to find information in a library
