Philosophy and Values

The following represents the core SkillWise values. These values provide the bedrock from which decisions are made, policies and procedures are developed and the organisational culture is shaped.

1. Respect

Respect constitutes the basis for all relationships at Skillwise, particularly between staff and clients. This includes respecting a person's point of view, their values and beliefs, their goals and aspirations and maintaining a non-judgemental attitude at all times.

2. Innovation

In order to continue to meet peoples changing support needs in a dynamic social world it is important to maintain an innovative approach to service provision. This involves ensuring good working relationships with all key stakeholders, open and honest communication and "thinking outside the square". Also, this will see a continuing shift from a centre based approach to more of a brokerage support model.

3. Self Determination

This is a key value and represents a critical area in terms of client outcomes and ensures people are empowered. Clients are supported to have and exercise choice in regards to their chosen "pathway to inclusion".

4. Inclusion

This forms the essence of client support and outcomes. Social inclusion is one of the key outcomes community participation can facilitate. Furthermore, inclusion forms the basis for decision making and service development ensuring all key stakeholders are able to have some input.

5. Learning

This is important both in terms of client outcomes and the wider organisational culture. As far as client support is concerned, learning opportunities are critical in facilitating personal growth and development. Furthermore, a cultural of learning is essential in developing a healthy, well functioning organisation.

6. Professionalism

SkillWise prides itself on maintaining a professional approach in all areas of the organisation. This is supported by codes of conduct, professional boundaries and ethics and is reflected in the quality of the service provided and measured by internal and external review processes.
