Changing Christchurch - Photo Exhibition 2006

Photography Exhibition held at Canterbury Museum
18-29 May 2006

An exhibition of photographs taken by members of the SkillWise Photography Group.
Many of these pictures were taken by people who have had little or no opportunity to take pictures before getting involved in photography at SkillWise.

Funding grants from the Lamar Charitable Trust and Methodist Provident, for which we are very grateful, have allowed the purchase of digital cameras and associated equipment.
Clients have progressed from camera handling and the technical side of photography through composition and learning how to 'see a picture'. Digital camera images allow pictures to be viewed by groups on a computer monitor or digital projector and each week the groups critique their own and other people's pictures.

The project 'Changing Christchurch' was inspired by the dramatic changes going on around SkillWise's location in Tuam Street; the rapid appearance of new cafés, restaurants and shops in the regeneration of the south side of the city centre, means the loss of some of the character-full old 'back lanes' of the central city. The photography group was keen to capture these changes before it was too late.

Generous sponsorship for this exhibition has been provided by Christchurch City Council's Creative Communities scheme and Mak's Photos.
